A Gift of Art
Members of the St. Catherine's community gathered last September to celebrate a gift of Cecilia Lieder's woodcut prints to the College. The gift and how it came about is a testament to the power of friendship. Made possible by Mary Siefert McIntyre '64 and her husband, Larry McIntyre, this gift encompasses 20 works in Lieder's "Flowers and People" series and will include 26 woodcuts when completed.
Cecilia and Mary's friendship began on their first day of high school at St. Margaret's Academy in Minneapolis and continues to this day. Along the way, Mary and Larry McIntyre also became patrons of Cecilia's artwork. "When Mary and Larry were married, they believed in me and supported me from the beginning. This gift of 'safe harbor' for my work at St. Catherine's - a place so pivotal in both Mary's and my life, and in our friendship - is only the latest example of that faith," Cecilia said as she thanked the McIntyres.
Lieder also credited the College with being pivotal in her growth as an artist. Her college years were a time when she decided to focus on art as her vocation and her profession and a time when St. Kate's faculty gave her "a living example of dedication to and joy in the making of art as a life work."
