Green Ash

You found Green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica).

Also known as Red ash, this medium sized tree grows 40 to 60 feet tall (7).  The bark is gray with ridges. There are 5 to 9 leaflets with stalks that are narrowly winged. The leaves turn yellow in autumn (2). The fruit is a samara that has a notched or pointed wing tip and is produced in the late summer. This is the most widespread native ash.
