This
plant grows a mass of small individual yellow flower heads that are arranged
in large, arching spikes (8). The flowers bloom in the summer and fall. The simple
leaves are narrow and form an alternate
arrangement (10). The larger leaves occur towards the bottom of the stem. The
plant grows to a height of 1 to 5 feet. It reproduces from seed and from
creeping rhizomes. It is mainly found
along roadsides and fence lines. It is widespread across Canada and the
United States. |
