Box Elder

 

 

 

 

 

 

You found Box elder (Acer negundo).

 

 

 

 

 

Also known as Canadian maple, this medium sized tree grows 30 to 50 feet tall (7).  The light green leaves are opposite and pinnately compound. There are 3 to 5 leaflets with irregularly toothed margins that are often 3-lobed.  The fruit is a samara that is produced in the fall.  The Box elder is found throughout Canada and the United States.
