St. Kate’s welcoming Catholic community was one of the things that attracted Abby Misukanis ’09 to the College. “St Kate’s was close to home, yet I felt like it was far enough away,” she says, noting that it reminded her of her high school community and the sense of knowing everybody. “And, it was a Catholic women’s college — which was important to me and my values.”

Misukanis, who was raised in the Catholic faith and has attended Catholic schools all her life, appreciates the feminine and spiritual aspects of the College, which she feels enrich her academic experiences. “I went to an all women’s high school, and that’s the type of environment I feel comfortable learning in,” she says.

Misukanis attends mass nearly every week at Our Lady of Victory Chapel. “They open up their arms to the whole community,” she says, noting that she admires the community-centered focus of spirituality at St. Kate’s. Opening Mass, which takes place during the second week of classes, is her favorite campus tradition. “There are dancers and a procession — it feels like we’re in Harry Potter because the faculty and staff are all in their robes and cheering us on as we walk to The O’Shaughnessy,” she adds. “It just makes you feel at home because you’re with your friends and your teachers and they want you to do well.”
