Can
I graduate early if I have a large number of transfer credits?
The curriculum in the associate degree programs at the College of St.
Catherine is highly sequential. Even if you transfer in many liberal
arts and science courses, the sequence of professional courses still
will span two years. However, you will have a lighter course load as
you progress, which allows you more time for other things in your life.
How
will I know which credits will transfer?
The Office of the Registrar will evaluate official transcripts after
the admission office receives them from your former college(s) and you
have been admitted. They will mail you a copy of this evaluation.
How
will my past grades affect transfer credits?
Credit will be given only for college-level courses in which you received
a grade of C- or better.
Transfer Guides are available for several Minnesota community colleges. These guides will help you determine how your courses will fulfill the Liberal Arts and Sciences requirements for an associate degree.
Does
it matter where or when my previous course work was completed?
The Office of the Registrar will evaluate any credits received at an
accredited post-secondary institution. Program-required liberal arts
and science classes, such as general psychology and anatomy and physiology,
must have been taken within the past seven years. There is no time limit
for other liberal arts and science classes, such as literature or art.
Can
I transfer credit to fulfill part of the professional component of my
program?
Generally speaking, no. Its rare for credits to apply toward professional
courses or courses that are unique to the College of St. Catherine curriculum
(such as CIL 100). Most often, transfer credits fulfill a portion of
the liberal arts and sciences core.
Do I
need to provide information other than official transcripts?
Usually not, but in some cases, the Office of the Registrar may ask
to see syllabi, books, notes or other information about a class before
making a decision to transfer credit.
