Sister Rita Steinhagen, CSJ, 1928-2006

Activist Sister Rita Steinhagen, CSJ, died on November 21, 2006, at Bethany Convent.

In 1997 she was arrested for the second time following a protest against the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia.  As a result, she served six months at the federal prison in Pekin, Illinois.

Throughout her life she worked for social justice, founding or volunteering for a variety of organizations, including St. Joseph House in Minneapolis (now Hope Community) and the Center for Victims of Torture.  She also spent time in Nicaragua working for Witness for Peace.
