The
Ade Bethune Collection
Description
Ade Bethune
(1914-2002) was an artist, writer and liturgical consultant. She was mentored
by Dorothy Day and others in the Catholic Worker movement. The masthead
she drew remains on the Catholic Worker newspaper to this day.
Ade was
especially known for her drawings of saints and Biblical scenes. Her depictions
of everyday people going about their lives often showed them caring for
the ill and homeless.
Born in
Belgium, Ade lived most of her life in New York and Newport, R.I. Her
collection of art and papers was given to the College of St. Catherine
in 1984.
