Circulation Student Employment
DEPARTMENT LOCATION AND HOURS :The St. Paul Campus Circulation department is located in the Coeur de Catherine building on the 1st floor southwest corner. The Minneapolis Campus Circulation department is located in the Education building on the 4th floor. Department hours vary according to individual campuses. Student Assistants' hours are flexibly scheduled around their college coursework. NATURE AND SCOPE :The circulation desk is the focus of communication between the patron and the library. Circulation student assistants are the first point of contact for most patrons. The first impression of the library and of the campus is often that which the employees project. The students are responsible for staffing the desk over 100 hours a week. POSITION SUMMARY :The student assistant helps the College of St. Catherine library patrons in using the facilities; and directs patrons to appropriate staff and librarians. The student reports to the Circulation Supervisor. Special responsibilities and training may be assigned as needed. REQUIREMENTS:Library background is helpful, but not essential; some computer skills a must; Ability to work in a team situation and maintain composure under stress; Good problem solving skills; Good public relations skills; Ability to work independently and yet enjoy working on a team in a pleasant environment; Reasonable physical stamina for bending and stretching for one to two hour periods; Must be cheerful, competent, conscientious, reliable, observant and orderly.
