Archives Graduate Assistant

Position Description

The Archives Collection, housed in the lower level of the St. Paul Campus Library, represents 100-plus years of College history. The collection consists of paper records, (faculty and academic department minutes, building construction records, administrative correspondence, etc.), over 4,000 objects (textiles, pottery and chinaware, memorabilia from faculty and alumnae travel, etc.), nearly 3,000 photos, catalogued library volumes (mainly faculty publications), and bound volumes of administrative and student publications (e.g., catalogues, student newspaper and literary magazines, etc.).

Requirements for All positions

The primary responsibilities of the Archives Graduate Assistant will be processing both objects and photos in the collection. This position will entail data entry for the archival collections. In addition, this person:

  • will use the new coding system for the artifacts and photos entered in the database;
  • create displays which feature the collections; and
  • assist patrons with their research using the collections.

In addition to the requirements listed for all positions, special consideration will be given to applicants with coursework in archival administration or who have previous experience in an archives or special collection.
