Weekend College
As a working adult, Rondi Persaud ’08 was looking for a college with a flexible schedule and a supportive environment. She found it at St. Kate’s, where she now studies accounting at the College’s Weekend College (WEC). “St Kate’s just felt right,” says Persaud, who transferred from a local community college.
Persaud also discovered St. Kate’s was the perfect place to explore and deepen her commitment to community activism and responsibility, and she found many opportunities to get involved on campus.
The Weekend College Student Advisory Board allows Persaud to participate fully in the St. Kate’s community as well as foster leadership skills and continue personal growth. Membership on the student advisory board led Rondi to the student council and the CORE committee. “These activities game me a better understanding of and a better appreciation for what goes on at school—and the chance to see what the faculty and the staff and the administration want to do for the best interests of the students.”
Persaud also applauds the College’s commitment for Social Justice and teaching women to be leaders for the future. She read the school’s biography, More Than A Dream, and says she wishes more students were aware of the school’s history and its deeply ingrained commitment to internationalism, diversity and justice. Most of all, Persaud wants to walk away from St. Kate’s feeling like she has furthered that mission, with the knowledge of having helped people.
