Collected and Still Creating: 1958 – Present

This retrospective exhibition features paintings, prints, and drawings that Philip Thompson produced over his career of more than 50 years; most of it spent teaching at Augsburg College. Among these works are prints and drawings collected by Gene Skibbe, emeritus professor of religion, who recently donated them to the College.

Clay Figures and Drawings, 2001 – 2009

Augsburg emeritus professor Norman Holen has long explored the potentials of clay and the human figure. In this most recent work, fourteen standing figures and busts solemnly return the viewer’s gaze, their rough texture adding to their weightiness. Weathered in appearance, they look of the earth and wiser for it. Complementing the sculptures are five drawings that treat the body with similar reverence and awe.
