Year Four: Bridges

Making Connections to your profession and your life after graduation.

FALL SEMESTER

ACADEMIC AND ADVISING CONNECTIONS

Explore opportunities for research and teaching assistantships through the Centers of Excellence and the Student Center and Activities office, Assistantship Mentoring Program (AMP).
Complete an internship or consider a second internship.
Complete and submit the Declaration of Intent to Graduate form by November 30 if you are graduating in May. Go to KateWay, "My Education" tab.
Meet with your academic advisor to prepare for graduation by reviewing the Degree Audit and the academic catalog. Make adjustments as necessary.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Apply for student employment, internships or jobs by logging into KatieClick and completing your profile.
Attend the annual Career Opportunities Fair in October.
Use your Career Development Senior Planner to help you successfully plan this year.
Attend the Twin Cities Graduate School Fair. Make sure you are aware of deadlines and application procedures if you plan to attend graduate or professional school.
Enter the job search process by participating in important networking opportunities in the Career Development office. Connect with graduates and attend events sponsored by professional organizations.
Make an appointment to meet individually with a career counselor to discuss your career plan.
Attend the Government Job Fair.

SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

Join in ministry at Mass or the ecumenical service. Help create a senior retreat. Meet with a spiritual mentor to sort out "What's next?"
Participate in a January or spring break justice learning and outreach trip. It's your last chance to participate or assist in designing one.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Mentor other students for leadership roles within the student organizations to which you belong.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

Explore programs offered in the Centers of Excellence in Science, Health, Justice and Technology.
Consider post-graduate service to further live out St. Kate's commitment to social justice. Learn about these opportunities in Community Work and Learning.

WINTER SEMESTER

ACADEMIC AND ADVISING CONNECTIONS

Prepare to assume independent financial responsibility by understanding and planning to repay your student loans.
Attend the Money Management speaker series to develop important life skills of financial management.
Attend the annual Study Abroad Fair to explore post-graduate volunteer, service and work opportunities abroad.
Confirm completion of graduation requirements with your advisor.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Attend the events and workshops in the "From Backpack to Briefcase" program. This program is designed to help seniors successfully make the transition from the academic environment to the professional work environment.
Participate in the Minnesota Private College Job and Internship Fair, the Minnesota Education Job Fair and the Idealist Non-Profit Career Fair to network and secure employment in your field.
Refine your professional résumé. Meet with a career counselor to learn effective interviewing skills and how to articulate the values and skills of your liberal arts/professional education.
Put finishing touches on your portfolio, highlighting your accomplishments in your major and in your co-curricular experiences. Enroll in the free workshop series on "Building a Professional E-Portfolio."
Attend the annual Pathways event to learn about career options in communications, arts or sciences.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Connect with professional organizations as a student member.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

As you prepare for graduation, celebrate all your connections to the College, including mentoring relationships with faculty and staff, and lifelong friendships with your classmates.
Become orientated to the Alumnae Association, and learn how to become an active and supportive graduate of the College.
