For
a formal online display of the Centennial 100...
On Wednesday, May 25, the College honored the Centennial
100 - one hundred individuals, couples and families, whose
work and contributions have had the most significant and lasting
impact on bringing the College to its Centennial celebration
as the largest and most comprehensive Catholic college for
women in the United States. Those selected were nominated
by alumnae, faculty, staff, students, trustees and friends
of the College and selected by a committee of administrators,
faculty, alumnae, trustees and Sisters of St. Joseph.
A formal display featuring pictures and biographies of each
Centennial 100 member has been installed in the McGough Lounge
on the third floor (east wing) of Coeur de Catherine. A reception
was held for many of the living honorees and their families
and friends.
The Centennial 100 include the College's founders, presidents,
and many Board chairs, benefactors, Sisters of St. Joseph,
prominent alumnae and volunteers, long-serving and distinguished
faculty members and friends. Among current faculty, the Committee
selected three long-term and distinguished professors, one
each representing the liberal arts, the professional and graduate
programs, and the healthcare programs. These honorees are
Professor Charles Buzicky, Professor Julie Belle White Newman
and Professor Alice Swan.
The Committee also selected three current administrators
with long and distinguished service to the College: Tone Blechert,
associate dean for two year programs; Colleen Hegranes, senior
vice president; and June Noronha, associate dean for multicultural
education.
Two other current employees, Patricia Hvidston, vice president
for development and external relations and Marjorie Mathison
Hance, director of corporate relations and assistant professor
of business, were chosen in the "prominent and/or highly
accomplished alumnae" category, as was Ruth Brombach,
executive director of the Alumnae Association.
We are confident you will agree that every person selected
for the Centennial 100 designation belongs on that list. We
are equally sure we could have expanded the list significantly.
Accordingly, the first among the Centennial 100 are the Sisters
of St. Joseph, every one of them. The last on the Centennial
100 list are "Each and All" representing the hundreds
and hundreds of people who, in addition to the Centennial
100 and in splendidly diverse ways, have made our College
a place of pride and accomplishment today.
