Sticks and Stones: Recent Sculpture by Aaron Dysart
September
11-October 20, 2006
In Aaron Dysart’s work the natural is simplified: stripped or painted, the stable is made mobile, one form points to another. By changing a natural object he creates nostalgia for the original form that brings both understanding and yearning. The sculpture becomes the new form and a reminder of the unaffected.
By creating this subtle loss of the present through adding supposed utility, Dysart strives to re-examine of definitions of nature. The human race is a part of nature, but there seems to be some intuitive separation. Categories break down, and the relationship remains far from clear.
