September 16-October 22, 2006
Cross Cultural Design is an exhibit of posters based on Adinkra: Integration of African and Western Cultural Visual Vocabulary. These posters are about the utilization of pictograms and ideograms based on Adinkra symbols and Western alphabets to create a visual language for cross cultural understanding. The Adinka symbols are a visual representation of social thought relating to the history, philosophy and religious beliefs of the Akan people of Ghana and the Ivory Coast.
Work from the Digital Art Studio is an inspirational exhibit of 36 pieces of original art created using innovative techniques developed by artists Karin Schminke, Dorothy Simpson Krause and Bonny Pierce Lhotka over the past ten years. The exhibit provides a unique study of artistic methods by simultaneously embracing technique while demonstrating its transparency through the stylistically diverse approaches of the three artists.
Artist reception will be held during Art Attack. |
