Twin Cities Life

Home to 2.7 million people — many of whom have come here from the farthest points on the globe — the Twin Cities are among the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the United States. In fact, it is ranked as one of the top 10 metro areas for projected job growth (Inc. magazine).

The Twin Cities is an extended laboratory for learning. For homework, you might watch a production at the world-renowned Guthrie Theater. Or observe state legislators in action at the Capitol. Or listen to the experiences of a family recently arrived from Eastern Europe.

When you need a break from studying, there are plenty of other things to do:

For the outdoorswoman:
There's fun in the snow and on hundreds of lakes and waterways; parks and trails are everywhere.

For the theater buff:
There are discount student tickets to one captivating production or another (we're second only to New York City in the number of theater seats per capita).

For the shopper:
There are funky shops on Hennepin and Grand avenues, as well as the big-city-caliber shopping of Nicollet Mall. Don't forget the Mall of America!

For the sports fan:
There are the Vikings (football), the Twins (baseball), the Lynx (women's basketball), the Timberwolves (men's basketball) and the Wild (hockey).

For the artist:
There are some of the Midwest's best museums, including the Walker Art Center with its internationally renowned collection.
