Career Preparation Beginning in freshman year, we'll offer a helping hand as you explore your career interests and choose a major. As early as your first year, you'll have the opportunity to take part in internships, fieldwork, work-study, volunteer work or research with a faculty member. This is the kind of learning you won't find in any book the kind that can open your eyes to a new career path, confirm your interests, even lead to a full-time job. If you major in nursing, education, occupational therapy or social work, you'll have opportunities to do fieldwork in nearby schools, health-care centers and community agencies. Internships in other majors offer valuable experience and contacts at a wide variety of organizations and businesses, from small firms to the headquarters of major corporations to government agencies (the Minnesota State Capitol is only a few miles away).
