Why St. Kate’s
Combined clinical and classroom education
At St. Kate’s, you’ll integrate your learning in labs and clinical rotations with classroom learning — instead of completing your classroom studies first and then proceeding into clinicals. Throughout the program, you'll discuss and reflect on your clinical experiences with other students and faculty.
In some cases, you'll examine patients — including real obstetrics patients in the St. Kate's sonography lab — under the direction of our highly experienced faculty. It's an ideal teaching model to prepare you for fieldwork.
Clinical partners in Twin Cities area
You'll meet all your clinical requirements at leading hospitals in the greater Twin Cites area. Our clinical partners include Hennepin County Medical Center, Abbott Northwestern, Woodwinds Health Campus, Fairview Health Services, Minneapolis VA Medical Center, Unity Hospital and Lakeview Hospital.
Liberal arts focus
Leading area healthcare employers expect the best from St. Kate's graduates. Our students are critical thinkers and effective communicators, leaders and decision makers — a result of the university's rigorous liberal arts requirements and the infusion of liberal arts goals into professional courses.
This is learning that will enhance your daily work with patients and other members of the healthcare team.
Social justice, ethics and the greater good
Values are a key part of St. Kate's learning. Students of all faith traditions are attracted to St. Kate's proud tradition as a Catholic university, founded and sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
Our faculty, staff and students are committed to integrating ethical decision-making, social justice, caring for others, relationship-centered learning, and concern for the greater good into their academic, professional and personal lives.
Small learning community
St. Kate's small classes and individual faculty attention are invaluable to your success. We enroll just 16 new sonography students each year and offer you a high level of faculty interaction in labs and in the classroom — as well as lots of one-on-one time with faculty.
The associate sonography program is part of St. Kate's comprehensive Henrietta Schmoll School of Health. The school is home to healthcare programs in dozens of disciplines at all levels, from certificate to doctoral programs, recognized throughout the region for excellence in clinical education.
