Clinicals and Research
Clinical education
Clinical experiences are an essential component of St. Kate's respiratory care program. Students must complete approximately 900 hours of clinical work in settings such as:
- Adult
- Pediatric
- Neonatal
- Rehabilitation
- Pulmonary function
We use a one-to-one student and preceptor/practicioner model for teaching many of our clinical experiences. This means you'll work collaboratively with an expert in the field to develop your clinical skills.
You also gain experience with diverse practicioners and patients in sub-acute and critical care settings through required clinical rotations.
Clinical locations
Practicums are scheduled at several healthcare facilities in the Twin Cities, including:
- Abbott Northwestern Hospital
- Children's Hospitals and Clinics
- Fairview-University Medical Center
- Hennepin County Medical Center
- Methodist Hospital
- North Memorial Medical Center
In addition, our students have the opportunity for home-based respiratory care experiences through our affiliations with agencies such as Pediatric Home Services.
Our students participate actively in their learning experiences and work collaboratively with faculty.

An advisor will help you select a specialty track for one or more internships in your senior year. Specialties include:
