Nursing: Post-Baccalaureate

Nursing is a career with growth potential worth exploring at any time in your work life. If you want to change direction after you’ve earned a bachelor’s degree in another field, St. Kate’s gives you options for adding nursing as a “second major” to become a registered nurse (RN).

Women and men can complete the post-baccalaureate nursing certificate through special evening or weekend courses offered in the Weekend College format. Typically, students complete the certificate in three and one-half years, attending class two evenings per week and Saturdays or Sundays as scheduled by the Nursing Department.

Applying to the program

Students proceed in this three and one-half year program as a group that starts each fall. The Fall 2010 group is full. However, an increase in the size of the Fall 2010 group is now under discussion and information on that decision will be posted here by mid-January. Otherwise, applications for the Fall 2011 group will be accepted beginning in Fall 2010.

Becoming a registered nurse

Upon completion of the program, you are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-RN) to become a registered nurse. The program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).

Where you’ll work

Registered nurses who have earned bachelor’s degrees typically work in hospitals, long-term and assisted living facilities, community-based agencies, homes, hospices, schools, workplaces, pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies.
