Accreditation and Licensure

The graduate curriculum in occupational therapy at St. Catherine University is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association.

ACOTE presented a Certificate of Accreditation in 2002 for a period of 10 years to the Occupational Therapy Program at St. Catherine University. The next on-site evaluation has been listed for the 2012-2013 academic year. For more information, contact ACOTE at:

National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy Education (NBCOT):

Following graduation, all students must take and pass the certification examination offered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).  For the three most recent calendar years (2008, 2009, 2010), the performance of the graduates of the occupational therapy program on the NBCOT certification examination was as follows:

Total number of program graduates 128
Total number of first-time test takers of the NBCOT certification exam 124
Total number of first-time test takers who passed the NBCOT certification exam 108
First-time test taker percentage pass rate 87%

State Licensure:

Each state in the US (including the District of Columbia, and some US territories such as Guam and Puerto Rico) regulates the practice of occupational therapy.  Most states, including Minnesota, require occupational therapy practitioners to be licensed.
