Certificate Programs

St. Kate’s MAOL program also offers graduate-level certificate programs that provide you with leadership credentials in the same specific areas as concentrations of the Master of Arts degree, including:

If you’re considering earning a degree, starting with a certificate is an ideal way to explore a specific field of leadership. You can use your certificate to enhance your current work or to pave a path to a new career.

Certificate specifics

To earn a certificate, you complete a selection of core MAOL courses and specialized courses for each certificate.

Admission requirements for certificates are the same as for the MAOL degree. You can apply course work taken for a certificate toward an MAOL degree within seven years.

Accountancy Leadership Certificate

The accountancy leadership certificate requires completion of 20–21 total credits, consisting of five required courses and two elective courses:

  • ORLD 6320: Federal Corporate Taxation
  • ORLD 6450: Accounting Systems
  • ORLD 7602/7603: Internship (in accounting, 2 or 3 credits)
  • ORLD 7650: Modern Accounting Theory and Practice
  • ORLD 8200: Strategic Management
  • Six addtional elective credits from MAOL course offerings in consultation with advisor

Ethics and Leadership Certificate

The ethics and leadership certificate requires completion of 15 total credits:

  • ORLD 6200: Ethics and Leadership
  • ORLD 7100: Professional and Organizational Ethics
  • ORLD 7500: Leading Organizational Change
  • Six additional elective credits from MAOL course offerings in consultation with advisor

Healthcare Leadership Certificate

The healthcare leadership certificate consists of four required courses and one additional elective course, for a total of 15 credits:

  • ORLD 6200: Ethics and Leadership
  • ORLD 6300: Strategic Communication
  • ORLD 6400: Accounting and Finance Skills for Effective Decision Making
  • ORLD 7410: Healthcare Policy: Ethical, Financial and Quality Issues
  • Three additional elective credits from MAOL course offerings

Information Services and Technology Certificate

The information services and technology certificate consists of three required courses plus three additional courses, for a total of 18 credits:

  • ORLD 6200: Ethics and Leadership
  • LIS 7550: Information Policy
  • LIS 8800: Knowledge Management
  • Three additional elective credits from MAOL course offerings

Plus two of the following:

  • LIS 7430: Reference Sources in Business and Economics
  • LIS 7510: Database Management
  • LIS 7540: Information Systems Analysis and Design

Library Leadership Certificate

The Library Leadership Certificate prepares you for increased responsibility within your organization and the larger community. The focus is on leadership skills, financial decision-making, personnel management, persuasive communication and advocacy skills.

If you have completed an ALA-accredited master’s degree, you follow a 15-credit course sequence. An 18-credit sequence is available if you have a bachelor’s degree.

Courses:

  • ORLD 6200: Ethics and Leadership
  • ORLD 6300: Strategic Communication
  • ORLD 6400: Accounting and Finance Skills for Effective Decision Making
  • LIS 7963: Personnel Management
  • Three addtional elective credits from select MAOL courses (for bachelor’s degree students, six credits required)

Spirituality and Leadership Certificate

The spirituality and leadership certificate consists of three required leadership courses and one or two additional theology courses, for a total of 16 credits:

  • ORLD 6200: Ethics and Leadership
  • ORLD 6720: Spirituality and Leadership
  • ORLD 6993: Topics: Spirituality and Work
  • Three addtional elective credits from MAOL course offerings

Plus four credits from the following:

  • THEO 6440: History of Christian Spirituality I (4 credits)
  • THEO 6540: History of Christian Spirituality II (4 credits)
  • THEO 6770: World Spiritualities (2 credits)
  • THEO 6780: Spirituality and the Life Stages (2 credits)
  • THEO 6790: Jung and Spiritual Guidance (2 credits)
  • THEO 6820: The Art of Discernment (2 credits)
  • THEO 6830: Spirituality and Sexuality (2 credits)
  • THEO 6900: Christian Ethics (4 credits)

Plus a spiritual formation plan including such activities as attending an annual retreat, having a spiritual mentor, guide or coach and participating in Wisdom Ways workshops/seminars.

Strategic Management Certificate

The strategic management certificate consists of three required courses and three MAOL elective courses, for a total of 18 credits.

  • ORLD 6200: Ethics and Leadership
  • ORLD 6300: Strategic Communication
  • ORLD 6400: Accounting and Finance Skills for Effective Decision Making
  • Nine additional elective credits from MAOL course offerings
