Year ThreeYear Three: Avenues

Making Connections to your academic major.

Meet with your adviser to plan the focus of your major program.
continue to check your College e-mail account, campus mailbox and the Daily Update for important College information and programs.
Discuss ideas publicly through Core Convocations and other lectures and events.
Plan clinical experience, student teaching or observation opportunities in your major field of study.
Complete a study-abroad experience that will round out your liberal arts program.
Begin planning for graduate school with the Career Development Office and with your faculty adviser. Attend one of the Twin Cities Graduate School Fairs offered during the fall. Contact Career Development for more information.
Establish relationships with faculty and staff outside of the classroom.
Explore opportunities for research and special projects through the Centers of Excellence and the Student Center and Activities collaboration.
Delve into your discipline by considering a research project with a faculty member or by presenting a paper at a major conference.
Work with your academic advisor and the Career Development Office staff to investigate or complete an internship. Attend the Minnesota Private Colleges Job and Internship Fair to network and explore a variety of internship opportunities.
Join special interest clubs, honor societies and organizations affiliated with your major.
Seek a campus employment experience connected to your major, such as a peer tutoring or teaching assistant position.
Continue to build your College of St. Catherine portfolio. Consider creating an electronic portfolio; contact Career Development for a schedule of e-portfolio development workshops.
Continue to act on your commitment to justice through service-learning opportunities, including America Reads, Volunteers in Action or other programs coordinated by the Office of Community Work and Learning.
Challenge yourself to see and make connections between the organizations, clubs, etc., in which you are a member/leader; continue to develop your communication, goal-setting and organizational skills.
Review your academic catalog and Degree Checklist, then meet with your major adviser to identify which major, liberal arts core and other graduation requirements you have left to complete. Plan a schedule to ensure that you graduate on time.
Take advantage of support services, including MIPS (for multicultural and international students), Personal Counseling, Access and Success (for student parents), and Disability Services.
Explore opportunities for completing Global Search for justice during your senior year that are community based or conducted abroad.
Plan to attend the Summer Job and Internship Fair in the spring to help you find summer employment and/or an internship to help you gain experience related to your major or career interest.
