Year One: Gateways

Making Connections to your classmates and the College.

Begin the connection process with orientation.
Connect with your first-year adviser during orientation, conferences and ongoing meetings.
Become familiar with the College's Mission, Vision, Leadership, and Liberal Arts Outcome Statements.
Connect with The Reflective Woman course and the on-campus resources supporting it, such as the Residence Life programs, Student Center events and Core Convocations
Clarify your academic/career goals through the fall or winter course, INDI 200 Career Development for Women -- Gateway to Yourself, Your Future.
Identify opportunities for involvement with campus organizations and groups at the fall Activities fair.
Connect to campus life through involvement in clubs, organizations, recreational sports, intercollegiate athletic programs, student government, service learning, and campus events and programs, utilizing resources within the Student Center.
Check your college e-mail account, campus mailbox and Daily Update on a regular basis for important College information and programs. These are the official methods of communication at the College.
Learn about future internship and employment opportunities at the fall Career Opportunities Fair (open to all majors).
Explore academic opportunities in your liberal arts courses.
Establish relationships with faculty and staff outside of the classroom.
Learn about the variety of majors offered at the college through the Associate Colleges of the Twin Cities (ACTC) program by attending the Major Fair held during fall semester.
Challenge yourself academically by exploring opportunities in the Antonian Honors Program.
Build your academic skills at the O'Neill Center for Academic Development.
Connect to campus employment opportunities.
Cultivate your spirituality through campus ministry and peer ministry activities.
Begin to collect the pieces of your College of St. Catherine portfolio with resources from your adviser and the Career Development Office.
Plan to attend the Summer Job and Internship Fair in spring to help you find summer employment and/or an internship to help you gain experience related to your major or career interest.
Take advantage of support services, including MIPS (for multicultural and international students), Personal counseling, Access and Success (for student parents), Health and Wellness, and Disability Services.
Begin to check out options for involvement, leadership and student employment opportunities for the next year at the winter semester Opportunities fair.
Act on our community commitment to justice through service-learning opportunities, such as America Reads, Volunteers in Action, Spring Break Outreach trips or other programs coordinated by the Office of Community Work and Learning.
